Austria

Yesterday I remarked on the resignation of Karin Gastinger from the BZOe (the coalition partner of the ruling OeVP, ahead of Sunday’s election). Today it appears that the Chancellor has asked her to stay on as a “non-partisan” minister, at least till Sunday. The “interesting variant” being put forward by Schuessel is that after the election, whoever makes up the coalition might agree to keep her on in that post. That might produce a peculiar situation for Austrian politics where a Cabinet Member isn’t a member of Parliament.
