The BBC is reporting on News 24 that Gordon Brown will allow a free vote on "3 key clauses". Don’t hold your breath until we find out what those sections of the Bill are.
Update - Watching the One O’Clock News. The three areas allowed a free vote during the Committee stage are:
- Creation of Saviour Siblings
- IVF treatment and Birth Certificates naming a non-sire as a parent
- Embryology sections including the creation of Human / Animal hybrids
Here’s the question though. What happens if the Bill in its final reading has all three of these things in it? Will Christian Labour MPs be permitted at that stage to vote against the Bill, given that it still contains immoral clauses?
