Martyrs Tradition

Almighty God,
by whose providence your servant John the Baptist
      was wonderfully born,
and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Saviour
by the preaching of repentance:
lead us to repent according to his preaching
and, after his example,
constantly to speak the truth, boldly to rebuke vice,
and patiently to suffer for the truth’s sake;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

  1. Fascinating that you highlight thsoe parts of the collect Peter.  Says a lot about you perhaps.
I gladly refer you to an excellent blog which shows great insight into many things in our current Anglican situation  - and the blogger is also a bishop not far from you.

Great reference in his blog today to the Guardian’s article yesterday about Gafcon.  Read it and weep…let’s hope the African bishops will repent rather than going on being self righteous.

  2. I’ve already read Bishop Alan’s piece this morning. He says some very pertinent things.

  3. I trust you found the Guardian piece pertinent as well. Frightening..but pertinent.

  4. It is shameful that the two African primates had to be rescued by the Archbishop of Sydney.

It seems to me that they need to get their own house in order before they attack others in the Communion.  The Gospel demands that they speak prophetically to the homophobic society in which live, and refuse to be complicit with violence.

God preserve us from those who throw stones.
