Weird life of Peter cross-over moment

From Outpost Gallifrey

At 9pm BST tonight (Thursday), BBC One will air John Barrowman: The Making of Me, the first part of a series in which celebrities investigate the causes behind their "defining trait". In subsequent instalments, violinist Vanessa-Mae will investigate the roots of her musical talent, and sprinter Colin Jackson will investigate what makes him [...]

Labels

Wit and insight from NTGBR

My favourite label at the moment is Kinsey 6. It’s obscure, pseudo-scientific and sounds like a pop group or superhero alliance.
“Hello, I’m a Kinsey 6. We defeated the Fantastic 4 and upstaged the Jackson 5 in 1973.”
Seriously, I’m fed up with labels as well.
I was there when Gay was just starting [...]

Choices 2005 - UK Voting

For my UK readers, considering whether to vote in tomorrow’s local and mayoral elections, here’s the video I did three years ago for the last General Election.

Remember, if you don’t vote, you let others change everything.

Something Sensible from Gene Robinson

Surprisingly, there is a little gem in the current Times serialisation of Gene Robinson’s book, a nugget that all those on the conservative side need to grab hold of and understand:

The worst part is that it’s reminiscent of the years and years that I had to self-censor everything I said, so as not to give [...]

A little piece of brilliance…

… from a link from a link. Read it just for the last line

2007 English Channel
Nelson: “Order the signal, Hardy.”
Hardy: “Aye, aye sir.”
Nelson: “Hold on, that’s not what I dictated to the signal officer. What’s the meaning of this?”
Hardy: “Sorry sir?”
Nelson (reading aloud): “England expects every person to do his duty, regardless of race, [...]

How to be: EMO

My friend’s ten year old son has a hair-style that is increasingly becoming a detriment to his ability to exercise any visual cognition - to put it bluntly, he is approaching looking like he is EMO. Or at least that’s what one of the older kids in church told him, but our innocent ten year [...]

Peter Tatchell on Sexual Identity

There’s some brilliant stuff in this Guardian Comment is Free piece by Tatchell. While I don’t agree with his conclusion, his analysis of the current Western social expression of homosexuality is spot on.
Like every other expression of human culture, homosexual and heterosexual identities are historically transient. They haven’t always existed, and they won’t last forever. [...]

More on SOR - How exactly do you define “orientation”?

You can read a copy of the Northern Ireland SOR regulations here and in particular the clauses relating to religious organisations. The issue at hand for myself personally is the protection of the rights of individuals and not just clergy or church bodies.
Section 1 of Section 16 says:
Subject to paragraphs (2) and (8) this regulation [...]

SORry, that’s going too far

There is a huge amount of fuss in the UK papers at the moment about the impending implementation of the new Sexual Orientation Regulations. The regulations, being pushed through to begin in Northern Ireland on the 1st January and at the moment looking as though they will be implemented in mainline UK by April, will [...]

Anita Cleverly on Ruth and Boaz

Anita Cleverly at St Aldate’s, Oxford, is preaching an absolute blinder of a series on the Book of Ruth. She covers issues of trust in God, the identity of men and women in Christ, the Messianic typology of the book and even encouragement on hooking up with the one you desire (are you listening Josh [...]

A Guide to Self-Hating

This post by Lisa Fox is causing a bit of a stir today. Apparently, shock-horror, it turns out that Bishop John-David Schofield of San Joaquin is a celibate homosexual and furiously traditional and orthodox in his theology. “Oh no”, screams Lisa (to paraphrase - obviously). That means that he is a:
self-loathing person who attacks gay [...]
