  1. Putting a positive spin on things, Peter! But two things to note from this:
    1. Ian Paul says Simon Butler told a lie about him sending a particular text on Monday and Justin Welby condemned this claimed message in his presidential address – as well as ‘bigging up’ Simon Butler and Jayne Ozanne by name.
    2. Some (e.g. James Oakley) are saying that some conservative clergy voted against ‘taking note’ because they thought the report was dishonest in talking about ‘maximal freedom’ and they believe that Welby (to judge by previous utterances) actually favours same-sex relationships but can’t say so openly.
The fact that clerics like Foreshew-Cain is on Synod shows there is no real discipline or desire to enforce it in the C of E.
That’s why this will rumble on into schism. (I take no pleasure in saying that.)

  2. What do these words mean:
“we need a radical new Christian inclusion in the Church. This must be founded in scripture, in reason, in tradition, in theology; it must be based on good, healthy, flourishing relationships, and in a proper 21st century understanding of being human and of being sexual”?
Is this not an acceptance of the new sexual ethic?

    • When I read Jesus in the Gospels he is both theologically conservative AND radically inclusive. Perhaps this is what the Archbishop is pointing us towards?

  3. “When I read Jesus in the Gospels he is both theologically conservative AND radically inclusive. Perhaps this is what the Archbishop is pointing us towards?”

That would be an OLD (first century) inclusion. ‘Radical inclusion’ then meant repentance, self-denial, taking up your cross etc. Why does Welby single out the ‘new 21st Century’ as the standard to follow? Sounds like TEC to me.
