Overheard at today’s Town Remembrance Service

Directed by an old lady towards one of the flag bearers for the young uniformed organisations who had a particularly unkempt mop of hair and straggly sideburns:

“Our soldiers didn’t die in the Second World War so that he could look like that”

Actually madam, our soldiers died so that he could choose to look like that. That’s what freedom is.
